August was an incredible month at CBD! We collaborated with comedians @chrxstopher.hall and @sarahhesterross who came into the salon to get their nails done 💅🏻

We launched our 1:1 nail tech and tooth training course, with @meantformore.creatives and @thenailfairy_cutebutdeadly offering an in depth look into the craft of nail art and the art of running a business.

And we of course SLAYED the nail game, plucked those brows, waxed those legs and bedazzled your teeth 😎

Naturally, I wanted to show @missjillmissjill an alternative side of the city, so we headed to @wheeloffateedi owned by our gorgeous client Tara, for a morning of spell jars, tarot and crafting.

There’s something really special about sitting around a table making things with your hands, chatting absolute nonsense, having proper conversations and connecting with people.

Wheel of Fate’s Craft Witch sessions are full of that energy 🖤spell jars 💜 broomstick making 🧡leather etching ❤️badge making and loads more.

And somehow, somewhere between Instagram, nails, witchy crafts and Edinburgh’s alternative scene, new friendships happen too.

Especially when you’re working for yourself, there’s a whole other side of the job nobody really prepares you for pricing yourself, talking to clients, setting boundaries, putting yourself out there, making decisions and actually believing that you’re good enough to do all of it.

And honestly? Confidence is one of the best things you can invest in.

You don’t need to know everything. You don’t need to feel confident every single day. But learning how to back yourself, trust your skills and show up as a business owner can completely change the way you work.

This is something we work on in our 1:1 nail training alongside the practical skills because becoming a successful nail tech is about so much more than nails 💅🏻

Sarah talks about reclaiming words that have historically been used to shame and police women and turning them into words of confidence, power and self-expression.

She also talks about the influence of Black ballroom culture and the way the word cunt has been used within that community as a celebration of being powerful, fabulous and unapologetically yourself.

It’s a really interesting conversation about language, misogyny, empowerment and taking ownership of words that were never meant to make us feel good about ourselves.
